Whodunnit!

The Chief Constable of the Police Service of Northern Ireland, Mr. Hugh Orde, calls a press conference and blithely tells the assembled scribblers that he believes that the provisional IRA, (PIRA), was responsible for the armed robbery at The Northern Bank. To refresh your memories, in December, an estimated £26 Million pounds was stolen by an armed gang from the HQ of The Northern Bank.
At the time, it was reported that only a very organised group, such as a paramilitary one, could have pulled off such a heist. It should be remembered also that both sides of the conflict in Northern Ireland have bred paramilitaries who carry out criminal as well as so-called political acts.

Without divulging a shred of evidence, the Chief Constable, asserts that PIRA is probably to blame. This, inevitably, leads to calls from some Unionist politicians for the expulsion of Sinn Feinn from the power sharing executive. This, of course, would suit some of the Unionists down to the ground, the DUP are calling for the government to "move ahead" without republicans - no Sinn Feinn, no serious opposition to their policies. Do you start to get uneasy feelings of a possible set-up? No, of course not!

If PIRA are responsible then publish what evidence you have, Mr. Orde, otherwise reasonable people might just suspect that you have leanings towards the Unionists. Republicans might suspect that the PSNI is going to be used like the old RUC, not exactly impartial in it's dealings with them. Look at this news report, and remember, no evidence of PIRA implication has been produced.
